After inspection, Yogi voluntarily recalled over 54,000 boxes of its Organic Echinacea Immune Support tea because of elevated pesticide residues.
The recall predominantly effected 16-count boxes with UPC code 0 76950 45010 3, implicating more than 900,000 tea bags throughout the United States.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) categorized this recall as Class III, indicating that consuming the product is unlikely to have any drastic, long-term effects on the consumers’ health.
Yogi explained that the recall was exercised out of caution as the tea did not match their usual quality standards.
The company stated, “While Yogi does not use pesticides—buying only to Organic Specifications that do not allow conventional pesticide use—we exist within a complex supply chain network where not everyone values organic practices in the same way that we do”.
The company claimed tea in question was contaminated through pesticide drift from neighboring farms.
Any consumer who is worried about their safety should contact Yogi or return the tea for refund.
