Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc stationed in Delray Beach Florida recalled whole cucumbers shipped from May 17th – May 21st, 2024, to 14 states for possible Salmonella contamination.
States affected: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia
Infected individuals could experience symptoms including, but not limited to fever, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pains, endocarditis (life threatening infection of the heart), arthritis.
The cucumbers recalled were dark green and ranged from 1.5 to 2.0 inches in diameter and 5 to 9 inches in length, but excluded mini and English cucumbers.
This recall came about after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture detected salmonella during a routine inspection.
To be clear, no consumer should eat affected cucumbers. Instead, discard them or return them to the grocery store for a refund.
